August is for Advocacy
August 4 @ 12:00 am - September 4 @ 12:00 am EDT
Every August, Congress goes on recess, sending members back to the states and districts they represent to meet with their constituents and to learn about issues important to their voters. During this time the ASBMB encourages you to participate in our annual August is for Advocacy Campaign to advocate for the robust support of the scientific enterprise. This year’s August recess will take place from Aug. 4 – Sept. 4.
Meeting with representatives during this time is the perfect opportunity to begin to develop a relationship with them and their staff. Being an advocate for the research community is easy to do, and we are here to help.
To help facilitate successful meetings, we are offering our expertise in scheduling, preparing and conducting meetings with your representatives. If you sign up to participate, we will send you a “How to” video with a step-by-step guide for conducting your meetings. In this video, Benjamin Corb, director of Public Affairs, will give an overview of the important role that constituents play in the legislative process and provide tips on how to best communicate with legislators.
In July the ASBMB’s Public Affairs Department will be hosting a live questions-and-answers webinar to help participants prepare for August meetings and provide guidance on how to be most effective.
