While the National Institutes of Health remains unaffected, other science agencies such as the National Science Foundation, U.S. Environment Protection Agency and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration remain closed and unable to administer programs that support the nation’s scientific enterprise.
The ASBMB Public Affairs staff is continuing to monitor the situation and contacting members of Congress and their staff on your behalf. However, in this political environment, often contact from individual constituents can carry more weight in the eyes of an elected official.
Below is a menu of ways you can contact your representatives. We encourage you to use any or all of these options.
- Email (less than 30 seconds of effort) Click here, and send an email to your elected officials urging them to take action and reopen the federal government. All you’ll need is your ZIP code. In three mouse clicks, you are done!
- Tweet or Call (no more than 5 minutes of effort) Click here, and read instructions on how you can tweet and call your member of Congress directly to share this important message.
- Write (30 minutes or more of effort) Click here, and find instructions for how to write a letter (in an envelope with a stamp).
